Feb. 22, 1978: Former California governor and presidential candidate Ronald Reagan campaigned in Longview, stumping for District 4 congressional candidate Frank Glenn of Flint. Reagan sidestepped questions about whether he’d be a candidate for president again in 1980.
Feb. 22, 1979: With denial of an appeal for injunction, the Texas Supreme Court gave its OK for commencement of construction of an $8.4 million new hospital in Longview. Hospital Corp. of America immediately issued notice of groundbreaking ceremonies at the Northeast Longview site within the week.
Feb. 22, 2001: Mayor Earl Roberts appointed a task force to study the feasibility of a public transportation system in the city. Part of the group’s charge was to research funding for a bus system, and to build on the recently presented work of a city consultant.
