Feb. 27, 1958: The first federal payment, of $140,909, to support construction of a million-dollar addition to Gregg Memorial Hospital was received. Up to $500,000 had been promised, but all payments for construction so far had come from county funds.
Feb. 27, 1988: A consolidated Economic Development Department was created by officials of state and local entities that previously had worked independently. The new department consolidated efforts of the Longview Chamber of Commerce, city, Texas Department of Commerce, Gregg County and Downtown Development Corp.
Feb. 27, 2002: The county airport was renamed East Texas Regional Airport, a step one county commissioner said was “the most significant thing that has happened on the court in a whole long time.” The new name reflected the county’s hopes for growth as the facility developed.
