March 11, 1986: Gov. Mark White led dignitaries and an estimated 500 people who took part in groundbreaking ceremonies for the city’s new $2.9 million public library. The 35,000-square-foot facility to replace the Nicholson Library was to be built at Court and Cotton streets.
