May 8, 1976: The Longview-area draft board serving Gregg, Harrison and Rusk counties was shut down as the Selective Service reduced capacity. Local members were among 525 assigned to 96 draft boards across the state. A standby organization remained to train board members in case the draft was reinstituted.
